Capital Punishment Strikes Again!

I think I’ve got to agree with Qwembi, orange might just be my new favorite color.

If you didn’t make it to the benefit last night, you missed out in a very serious way! The RollerGirls were out in full force and Planet Zoron hit the stage with a new-found energy and killed their set.

Not even two hours before I made my way to Paradise, I messed around and tossed my flash card from my camera bag so I didn’t get to get pictures. (I’m still kicking myself in the ass for that one!)

But I did get video!

And, if I’m lucky, Al will come through with some pictures soon so I can share them with all of you.

The video will be a while coming yet (I’ve had to go seriously low-tech and that’s created its own set of problems, as if I needed more! LOL) but I just have to say thanks to all the girls (and fans!) who showed the band so much love last night. It was great to see, heartwarming even.

BUT!

I can’t. -sigh-

If you ask Leaf Qwembi what his musical style is, he’ll tell you “conscious rap and hip-hop.” The Los Angeles-born, Virginia-raised musician began cutting his teeth on the music scene in sixth grade, when he rapped about the dangers of drugs. Qwembi arrived in Tallahassee in 2007 and is often heard playing with the band Planet Zoron (formerly Crossbreed and the Bassment Band). This year, Qwembi decided to strike out on his own by releasing the solo album “Life, Camera, Action,” which will be available by the end of the year at Vinyl Fever, X-breed and at at Qwembi’s shows.

Here’s what he had to say about his music.
