OMFG

Soul Rebels blew the Engine Room sky high last night!

I was late getting in so I missed Planet Zoron’s performance (boo!) and I almost didn’t stay.

Almost.

By the end of the night, I – me, now, the super duper shy one – was up beside the stage, groovin! That alone is a testament for those of you who know me. For those of you who don’t – I don’t even dance for Planet Zoron (or any of the rest of my crew!) and the only time I’m near the stage is if I have my camera in hand.

Imagine blending the sounds of Mardi Gras funk, soft rock, and reggae so seemingly it defies category. Now shrink that idea into a seven-piece ensemble, add a hip hop sensibility plus a hundred years of New Orleans jazz tradition, and youll get the Louisiana sound known as the Soul Rebels. This shrewd crew of college trained multi-instrumentalists are forcing listeners to “Let Your Mind Be Free” as they “Work It Out” on the dance floor. There music is utterly uplifting and hard core leaving fans with a myriad of intrinsic sounds and songs to enjoy.

That about sums it up. Their musical skill, stage presence, cohesiveness…everything.

Phenmominal!

All that brass made me wish I was in the band again! (That’s right – I was a horn player too!)

I can’t wait to get a shirt. I can’t wait to get a CD. I damn sure can’t wait til I get to see them perform again. And I will get video next time that happens! I’m still so mad my camera is out of service. -sigh-

Anyway! Here is their main website. And here is their MySpace page. Go – visit – listen!

With any luck, I’ll have some pictures coming soon, thanks to the lovely Miss Nakita.

More Goodies

I was just getting my bookmarks situated when I bumped into this:

Compliments of Maniac Magee’s class, Hip-hop in America – TBerry and Leaf Qwembi discussing the question ‘What is Hip-Hop?’

I meant to post this a while back but ya’ll oughta know how I am by now.

Better late than never!

Des’ree – Kissing You

I’ve decided to try something:

I’m going to start making posts on some of the music I like – outside the music that has taken over my life (Planet Zoron, SBE, Alabama Blakk, etc, etc.) – and try to do it on a regular basis!

Tonight, I took a trip back to 1996 with William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet.

As I was watching the movie, I heard a song I hadn’t heard in quite some time, Des’ree’s Kissing You.

It’s very beautiful and very…haunting. Hear for yourself:

It gives me goosebumps every time I hear it!

5am Yet Again…

I’m not sure what’s up with this but tonight’s the…fourth?…night I’ve been out til the crack of dawn.

And my big brother Demon is to blame! It’s all his fault. (Even when it isn’t ’cause I’ve got it like that!)

Planet Zoron rocked Boxer’s.

A select few returned to C-Side.

And the night ended with a hit! (Or three.)

Because it’s late and I’m slacking – Reddy Rod and Demon killed the mic at C-side. And, surprisingly enough, I don’t have video footage to stash in my bag of tricks!

It’s all good, though. I get the feeling that tonight was only the beginning.

The Flood

One of biblical proportions coming from this lil corner of the web!

Remember my secret from a minute ago?

It’s coming.

Very, very soon!

(All I’m waitin on is someone – coughcoughKILLACALIcoughcough – to get me a logo!)

Meanwhile, I’m about to start going through a Planet Zoron set and see what I can come up with. At least I already have the logo for that – I made it! -laughs- Maybe one of these days I’ll get it up in the portfolio.
